An advert has appeared on the televising pushing this cartoon about Dork Hunters from Outer Space. I suspect that this programme and subsequent dolls is an American idea and frankly I am appalled by it. Dork in America is a derogatory name for a person that is not as bright as others. It an offencive name and something that really shouldn’t be encouraged by hitting the children’s market and giving them green light for them to bully these children who have difficulties under the guise of being an alien hunter.
I haven’t seen the programme and have no wish to. Nor will I allow my children to see and have already explain to MLA just how appalling it is to make up a TV programme and sell toys designed to make fun and bully children with a disadvantage.
It appears that bullying and ridicule is now an acceptable pass time…shame on us!
In my experience the people labeled dorks tend to have varied intelligence… sometimes more, sometimes less. The only thing common about them is poor social skills.
That having been said, I agree completely with you about how appalling this show is. It seems to be ‘ridicule/hunt the different’. Especially with how the protagonists seem to be portrayed… images of physical perfection that no teenager actually will ever have. A person doesn’t usually look mature until they’re at least 20.
