Yesterday BB went on her first transition day for her high school she is due to start in August. She was not that happy about it as she has to get on a bus an hour earlier than we leave now for school and was very worried about the driver dropping her off at the wrong place for home, of course that made me worry about her being OK. I put on a brave face and put her on the bus yesterday morning. She sat in the first seat she came to and looked at me through the window giving my the ‘I am scarred’ look. When she came home she was little happier and got off the bus happier, she had met with an old friend at school. This morning she is not so worried, but still not that happy as she hasn’t many friends at the school. I explained that she has only been there one day and there are over 1000 pupils in the school, so she is bound to have some friends when she goes properly. She did not find the constant change in venue and teachers too bad but she said there was a lot of changing and MLA would have real trouble, this coming for a nearly 12 year old!
I know I would have had a real fight on my hands in regards to transport for MLA and I KNOW he would not cope with the bus, getting on and off unsupervised by the driver and finding the right bus to get on when coming home and getting off at the right place let alone crossing a quiet but ‘rat run’ road at the pick up point. He would need someone to escort him from the bus to the classroom and then a supervisor in the classroom and in each and every lesson plus someone to ensure he is escorted round the school and at lunch time and play times. No he would have several melt downs a week and I would be panicking every morning and evening. He is far better off with Home Education, and safer!
