Dangerous weapons

In the School meeting I was told attend last Friday one thing that came out would be extremely funny if it were not so silly.

MLA  was given, by his occupational health therapist, a Koosh Ball as a fidget toy.  His new teacher removed it from as she felt it dangerous and a Health and Safety Issue, ‘it could take someones eye out’.  I reminded them that his OT had given him this and he should use it, but they were adamant it was too dangerous.

I rang his OT this morning and after she stopped laughing at the ludicrously of this statement, she is arranging for his personal OT to contact me and sort the school out with ’something less dangerous’

Just to put this in perspective for those who have never held a Koosh Ball, it is a ball (round) object made up of thousands of strands of a rubber type substance that is extremely soft and even when thrown with force it does no more that stings slightly and momentarily.  His OT would not supply a dangerous item and it’s an insult to suggest this!

The school were apposed to a fidget toy being ‘officially’ given to MLA, his last teacher was good enough to set her one up but resistant to any OT input in the matter and as he has joints problems this was upper most in my mind…prevent damaged to his finger joints.

I will let you know the outcome of this and whether or not he gets to keep the highly dangerous weapon or not or if it’s replaced with a less dangerous item!

I wonder when his ’sit fit’ cushion and his sloping writing board is also given ‘heave ho!’

I expect this to be next on the list of the miracle ‘cures’ of MLA!
